Yikes I never post anymore I know. I am back from NYC and Memphis. Hit up Bluegrass Fest and Gonerfest. I also recently saw The Black Lips at GAMH, Morrissey at The Filmore, and am going to Josh Ritter on Wed. New Radiohead - awesome, Britney- sad, Pocket Pigs - awesome, Giant Russian Cats- scary. Whew..... now we are all caught up.

WTF?? How did I not know sooner that Anthony Bourdain has an ongoing blog on the Bravo site where he recaps each episode of Top Chef??? His run down of last week was so right on, I nearly pissed my pants when he called Madonna's brother an asshat.

Finished the "Nasty Bits" a while ago and almost liked it more than "Kitchen Confidential" it is a collection of various stories he has written for magazines and stuff over the years, great travel read.

So I will end this by reposting a pic of me, Joe, and Bourdain from his book signing at The Ferry Building last year.

Last night's Grinderman show at Slim's was amazing. First set was of all Grinderman songs and was awesome. I heard rumors that last night at Great American he did an encore of all Bad Seeds songs so I was pretty stoked. The band sounded great and Nick Cave was in top form dancing around and interacting with the audience. Jim Sclavunos was almost unrecognizable with a giant beard, looking more like a railway hobo than the skinny slicked back hair drummer from The Cramps, but it was awesome.

When they came out for their encore they did a classic Bad Seeds set including: "Red Right Hand" "Tupelo" "The Weeping Song" and "Henry Lee". People were going nuts so I knew they would come out for another set.

I was secretly hoping they would play "Deanna" as it is my favorite Bad Seeds song. Little did I know it would be better than I expected. Earlier in the night Jello Biafra squeezed past me to move to the side of the stage so I knew he was in the house. But the audience was in for a real treat when the band returned to the stage with Henry Rollins and Jello and launched into an awesome rendition of Deanna with Henry and Jello on backup vocals. It was the perfect ending, and the kind of moment you always hope for at a rock show...

Quick Review of the Ryan Adams show at the Berkeley Community Theater:

So I heard before I got there Ryan was walking down the aisles and in the lobby asking for requests from the audience. I wondered who he asked because it didn't seem like he played any of em. The majority of his set was from Cold Roses which is not my fav of his albums. He only played three tracks from Easy Tiger (Two, Goodnight Rose, I Taught Myself How to Grow Old). He was rather chatty and playful with the crowd talking up his love of Cheeze-Its and his new boxer briefs riding up his butt. I heard in the day before at the SF show he didnt talk to the crowd once and played a shorter set. The band sounded great and his voice was good, it was just a really weird venue and I was kinda disappointed by his choice of songs. However, the end of the show did pack a pretty mean punch with "I See Monsters", "Beautiful Sorta" and "Shakedown On 9th Street".

Simpsons do Fashion, Rufus sings with Jake

I love the marketing that is going on for The Simpsons movie. First making actual Kwik-E- Marts, Simpsons Off The Wall Vans, and now Simpsons in Harpers rocking the latest fall designer fashions. I seriously might be one of the few peeps in the very small cross demographic that loves both The Simpsons and follows the Fall runway shows. Check it out here.

Also finally the video of Rufus Wainwright in NYC singing "Between My Legs" with Jake Gyllenhal doing the spoken word part. Too much hotness for one stage.

Bummed I can't see Rufus at the Nob Hill Masonic Center, I will be in SD. Just got back from a great show at Stern Grove with Os Mutantes and Los Amigos Invisibles. Coming up for me Kiki and Herb 7/17, Ryan Adams at Berkeley Community Theater 7/24, and Grinderman at Slims 7/27.

Sgt. Pepper Must Die!

This is one of the most entertaining music articles I have read recently. Check it out from the Guardian (UK). I have to admit I am dating a Beatles hater, and as a Beatles fan I really dislike Sgt. Pepper's and who better to sum it up than Billy Childish. I love all of these blurbs , just cause something is considered a "seminal" album doesn't mean it is for everyone. I love The Doors and Pink Floyd ones too, cause both are things I never have really loved or gotten into even after four years at UCSB and growing up in SoCal. I just wish someone would have done a Bob Marley one...

Pipettes was cute and fun, but nothin crazy awesome. I loved Smoosh though they are so little and talented. They covered Bloc Party's "This Modern Love" which was awesome. There is something about a 13 year old girl singing "I'll pay for you anytime" that is a little wrong though :)

Wow what an awesome night. I couldn't have been happier got to hang out with a lot of good friends and dance my butt off right in front of the stage. Didn't get back until 6am. I wish I was partying hard all night, however I passed out at around 2:00 at a friends place and had to leave because their cats were giving me an allergy attack.

I went to a pre-release party for the new Rufus Wainwright CD, Release the Stars, a while ago and have been loving it for months. How did I not hear that "Tulsa" is about a tryst he had with Brandon Flowers?? Wow it doesn't get much hotter than that :)

And apparently this is the fat guy in the green shirt from the song. Check it out photographic evidence in his myspace pics.

Anyways, I am excited for LCD this Friday and the Pipettes next week. Any Memphis suggestions are welcome as I think I will be going to Goner Fest with Joe at the end of Sept.

This is pretty hilarious, why don't they let Andy Samburg do all the skits on SNL. Succulent rub downs made me laugh out loud, as well as his pirate fantasy.

So Cinco was fun watched the SF Victory play Nexaca (sp?) at Kezar Stadium during the day then tore it up at Soul Night and the Latin American Club in el noche.

The other weekend I had a Brit Invasion concert weekend with Amy Winehouse and Jarvis Cocker. Amy Winehouse slurred through her whole set and sang three songs from the floor alternating sitting down and laying down. It was thoroughly disappointing because I really like her cd and her band was tight as hell. Jarvis however, was quite the showman it was an amazing show. He played all from his new solo CD and a Doors cover. Lots of stupid kids were bummed he didn't play any Pulp songs but I knew he wasn't on this tour going in.

Also just heard a rumor Sascha Baron Cohen is cast to play Freddie Mercury in the new Queen biopic, which I think is a great match.

So I may be going to see Britney tomorrow night at the Independant, am working on getting on a guest list she is supposedly plying three 15 min sets around town at the Red Devil, Independent, and DuNord.

L.A.: Partying with Jaime Foxx and friends

Yeah so somehow me and my friends happened upon Jaime Foxx's bday party at Social. It was pretty sweet with loads of free drinks courtesy of Belvedere. Here is a pic of Jaime rockin out on the 1s and 2s before he yelled "Ladies come and get your medicine" and poured shots of Belvedere down ladies throats Mexico style (including my posse). What a way to send off April, the West Coast will miss you....

Oh yeah and there is a Hooters in R.B. hell has frozen over. My mom sent me this tank which is pretty hilarious (FYI Rancho Bernardo is where I am from originally in San Diego and is a totally white conservative suburb in North County, which consists mainly of senior citizens, which is why having a Hooters there is so hilarious):

This picture pretty much sums up my weekend. Starting with reeking havoc in P.A. Culminating in watching some 35 year old soccer mom punch a 16 year old kid in the head as he was trying to start a mosh pit at The Killers show.

Sat. show was amazing, played lots of stuff from both cds, lots of glitter and dancing and of course Brandon looked great. The one down fall was as a mentioned above, half way through the show a group of 16 year olds took of their shirts and started to bro down and try to make a mosh pit. At first I was like seriously? Are you really trying to mosh to poppy dancey songs with synths? Also when you are at a show where glitter confetti is falling from the ceiling at regular intervals, isn't that usually a sign that the crowd shouldn't in any way shape or form start moshing? Then the lady and her older husband standing next to me just snaped. She ran into the pit and just started kicking ass yelling at all the kids and telling them how stupid they were, she was pummeling them with closed fist and hit one kid in the head pretty hard. It was seriously the most awesome thing I have ever seen. When she left this chick standing near me said, "Goodbye hero....". I seriously almost peed my pants, or tights as it was. They also did a nice cover of Joy Division's "Shadowplay".

Then after the show Cari and I hit up Edinburgh to continue her massive bday weekend. The older owner guy gave us some free Stellas for Easter which was sweet. Happy Resurrection Sunday 91x styzzz (I am sure like 2.5 people from SD who read this will get that).

Also got a pre-release of Cassadaga last week and it is really good, very along the lines of I'm Wide Awake It's Morning. "Classic Cars", "Four Winds", and "If the Breakman Turn My Way" are probably my fav tracks so far. Even Joe admits his voice is a lot better and less affected on this cd, and he is a total Bright Eyes hater.

Ahh I hate to keep updating this post with new shiz, but I have to post a link to the new Kate Moss Top Shop collection coming out in June. It is no coincidence that are names are only two letters apart :) I am super stoked, back in my Brit days I loved me some Top Shop, kinda like H&M. Recently they just began shipping to the U.S for online orders. After looking through the looks I def want one of those K shirts, and striped vests. Also the black 60s cocktail dress is pretty killer. I have to say Kate Moss, is aging pretty well, she still looks super hot, even after all the Pete and coke drama.

Freedm Night: Noise Pop

Tonight at Mezzanine Freedm Night kicks off the Noise Pop fest. I will be there to check out Tapes 'N Tapes and Har Mar Superstar, who is always a good time. The event is free, but the guest list is closed. David Cross will be both mcing and djing as well as art from Shepard Fairey who is also djing. I am sad to miss many of the shows as I will be in Napa all weekend. But, some relaxation is in order.

Man, sorry I may be late to this party but I am so into Amy Winehouse right now. I was just reading Interview magazine and they had a great article on her. She gives shout outs to both The Shangri Las and Mos Def. Check out four of her songs on her myspace page. Who would have thought a sailor tattooed chick with big hair from North London would have such an amazing soul and R&B voice. She totally reminds me of a young Shirley Bassey. She will be playing on 4/26 at Popscene with the Klaxons click here for tix.

Otherwise, things have been good still on the job hunt interviewing like crazy. I def will be checking out the Noise Pop Tapes and Tapes show with David Cross next Wed. I think it is full but try to get in if you can it is free and at Mezzanine doors at 7:00.

Should be a great show, I know people who went to his shows last night he was in town and Mos Def showed up and did a set. The Punchline is pretty small so this should be an amazing chance to see Dave try out new material in a small venue. My Phone's On Vibrate for You

This weekend I got a chance to see the amazing Stephen Petronio Company perform at the YBCA theater as part of SF Performances. The first half used Rufus Wainwrights songs and was really amazing, I am more of a drama and musical nerd than modern dance girl, but I was really impressed. Also the SF Girls Choir sang during the Bloom section which was a great surprise, to look up in the rafters and see a full choir of little kids singing along to Rufus' melodies. The costumes were amazing, which should come as no surprise as the company has worked with fashion legends like Manolo and Tara Subkoff (Imitation of Christ).

Thanks to Yelp Elite, I got free tickets for me and a friend and great drinks and appies over at B Restaurant afterwards, in other words a perfect Sunday afternoon.

In other news Happy B-day to both Kristins B and K who will be celebrating this week with back to back bday celebrations, I better rest up.

Grindhouse and Across the Universe Trailers Out

Grindhouse teaser trailer. Dating a huge 60s and 70s cult and b-movie fiend has given me a pretty good insight into how awesome this movie is going to be. Double feature of Tarantino and Robert Rdoriguez, zombie movie and car that kills people films shot in 70s b movie style. I love that Rose McGowen has a machine gun for a leg in the Rodriguez bit. The trailer is edited really well to look like an exploitation trailer.

For something a little bit lighter check out the trailer for "Across the Universe" from one of my favorite theater and film directors Julie Taymor (Titus, Lion King, Frida). It looks a bit cheesey with the total literal use of Beatle's songs and naming the main character Jude, I mean come on. But I am sure it will be beautiful and visually stunning, the mod party scenes look cool. Probably more for fans of Moulin Rougue than Titus.

SF Indie Fest

I am really excited for a lot of the films showing in Indie Fest this year.

The opening night this Thursday 2/8 is the premiere of Inland Empire the new David Lynch film starring Laura Dern and Justin Theroux (who I love). It is three hours long so I am bracing myself for lots of weirdness, also I will be at the opening night party later that night featuring dj sets by Adrian and Mysterious D of Bootie.

I am also super stoked to check out Rock n Tokyo, which is a documentary which follows Guitar Wolf, The 5678s, and other Japanese garage rock bands.

Black Lips at 12 Galaxies

Great show last night at 12 Galaxies. If you haven't heard Black Lips yet, you should definitely check them out. Especially for fans of The Oblivians, Reigning Sound, Goner, or In the Red artists.

I took up a spot in the balcony with my friends, which I was glad I did because if you you can tell from the pics the kids in the front were going crazy, and I am getting too old for that shit. Their set was great, and I was especially happy when they played "Dirty Hands" which is one of my favorites. Their new album "Live in Tijuana" will be released in February, and it is....

Openers Hank IV and Gris Gris were entertaining. I have seen Gris Gris a handful of times, and although I like their 60s psych vibe, sometimes their jam outs are just too long for my taste. Although their second song was great. Hank IV was entertaining one of my friends dubbed them "the best worst band ever". The lead singer kinda reminds me of the singer in Harvey Danger, that random 90s band who sang "Flag Pole Sitter".

I am thinking First and Second days. Can't pass up a chance to see Bjork and Jarvis live. But come on you have to admit the headliners are pretty weak, I mean I would have been pretty stoked to see Rage and RHCP my senior year of High School, but now not so much.

I little secret I will share with you. The password to by pre-sale tickets was "Roxanne" which seems to be a hint that The Police might also be added to one of the days, as they will be having their reunion tour at that time. I also would have liked to see Beirut or The Pipettes playing on one of the days.

A-Maze-Ing

So I went and saw Pan's Labyrinth yesterday and it was so awesome. Not for the squeamish it is definitely bloody and dark the way the o.g. fairy tales were before they were all Disneyfied. I would def recommend it.

This week is shaping up to be a busy one. Tonight go check out Division Day at Cafe Du Nord, they go on at 9:00. On Tuesday, I am off to 12 Galaxies to check out The Black Lips, Joe tells me they are amazing and pull some crazy stage antics, like bleeding all over the place and peeing in their own mouths (not too stoked on the later but we'll see). On Wed. is a Yelp Elite event at Supperclub, I went there last year for my b-day and had such a great time, so I am really stoked to go back.

Looking for news on Morrissey tickets which were supposed to go on sale today for his upcoming show at The Warfield Feb. 8th. If anyone knows anything about when tix go on sale shoot me an email. There will be an after party at Popscene featuring Stellastar but there are no pre-sale tickets for it, doors open at 9:30.

I really liked 25 it was a good even number, and last year was ok but I wouldn't mind doing at least half of it over, so I have decided that although I am turning 26 today, I reserve the right to tell people I am still 25 if I want to for at least 6 more months.

So far my b-day as been pretty great, I have two interviews coming up, I watched Nancy Pelosi sworn in as Speaker of the House this morning and Amy Sedaris on Martha Stewart. Then I went to the gym and listened to a pretty funny "This American Life". Tonight Joe and I are going to dinner and to see Jersey Boys and as a total musical nerd I am pretty stoked. Wait, NPR, CSPAN, Martha Stewart, and Musicals maybe I am turning 46 instead of 26!!

Happy 2007 everyone. Had a great New Year's Eve, hanging out with friends at my place and then heading over to the Birdmonster show at Bottom of the Hill. Here are some pics from that night. It was great spending time with all my friends old and new and seeing a great show. Loved the covers of Billy Joel and The Proclaimers, Cari and I were very stoked as 500 miles was one of our go to Karoke songs when in Cambridge.

When I heard James Walsh of Starsailor sing " Good Souls" live at the Popscene Lily Allen show, it hit me as really appropriate. I was really happy and thankful to be there with some of my best friends, without who I would not have been able to get through a real difficult 6 months or so. This year I have really come to the realization that life is too short to waste it worrying, but rather you should put yourself in an environment where you can be truly happy. I am really excited about all the new opportunities that will come my way in the new year, and thank you to all the Good Souls who I know who make me happy.

Also the new Gwen Stefani Pharrell produced track "Yummy" off her upcoming albumn The Sweet Escape. I know I know there are a lot of Gwen haters out there, but she is totally my favorite guilty pop pleasure. I like the hook of this, but Gwen trying to rap about having a baby is kinda lame. How can one band combine so many of my favorite things? 60s girl group, matching polka dot dresses, dance moves, Beyond the Valley of the Dolls inspired video featuring hottie Gael Garcia Bernal.

Joe and I had an awesome time at The Cramps for H-ween and The Groovie Ghoulies were amazing as well. I was a spy, but people kept asking me if I was Carmen San Diego, so by the end of the night I was going with that. But correct me if I am wrong but I think she had red hair, hmm maybe an idea for next year....Rocapella take 'em out!

Austin was awesome saw Amy Sedaris, David Ratkoff, and McSweeney's peeps at the Austin Book Fair. Saw Beirut and King Kong and BBQ at Emo's. Heard the loveley sounds of the end of The Decremists set at Stubb's, it was great. Totally want to go back Austin was super fun.

So I am off to Austin for a week, and I am really excited! Thanks to everyone who has given me and Joe loads of good recommendations. We will be eating lots of delicious food, seeing lots of music, and doing lots of drinking.

Also, I will be back in San Diego this weekend and I am really excited to see my family and brother! Also I am going to try to see Marie Antoinette, how awesome are the previews with The Strokes and Joy Division as the soundtrack.

I will have lots of pics to post when I get back and a full report on all the shows we see especially Detroit Cobras.

I love Saturday mornings, me and Joe make breakfast, I get to sleep in and listen to tunes. So a great point of discussion is what to play Sat. morning, it has to be something pretty chill not too jarring. IE- Joe's suggestion of The Dead Milkmen obvs gets vetoed. Also it can't be an artist the other person totally despises. IE- my suggestions of Ryan Adams always get vetoed by Joe (occasionally he lets Heartbreaker sneak in). So today I scoured our giant cd collection to find five perfect discs for Saturday morning and threw them on random. I think I did a pretty good job:

Big Music Weekend

I am so excited to see the Scissor Sisters tomorrow night, and I am also going to try to hit on the Birdmonster show at Slim's afterwards if they have not gone on yet. As Scissor Sisters is sold out, I would recommend checking out the Birdmonster show.

Then on Saturday I am going to the Download Fest (I know worst festival name ever). But the good news is it will feature Beck, YYYs, TVOTR, Muse and The Shins. I am so excited to finally get to Beck perform with his puppets.

Oh yeah and do not pay money in the theaters to see "The Last Kiss", although I love me some Zach Braff and Jacinda from Real World London, this movie totally sucked. It was pretty unbelievable that in one small group of friends that everyone would hate every relationship they were in. Plus the way they tried to recreate The Garden State soundtrack was laughable at best. At least that soundtrack fit with the movie, and featured a lot of up and coming bands plus classics like Simon and Garfunkel. All Braff gives us on this is Snow Patrol from their 2 year old CD not their new one, good ole reliable Coldplay, and some other useless bands that Braff directs videos for. If you want to go see a good movie in the theaters now check out "This Movie Has Not Been Rated" about the MPAA.

Maybe I am alone here, but I really like the new Killers single "When You Were Young". It is pretty melodic and the "you said he doesn't look a think like Jesus" part always get stuck in my head. Oh yeah and new Scissor Sisters "Ta-Dah" is amazing, Joe and I picked up the 2 disc collectors edition CD last night and have been dancing around our apt. ever since.

Emily Strange 13th B-day Exhibit at 111 Minna Sept. 12th featuring The Husbands. Joe has been trying to get me to see The Husbands forever, and I must admit it is a pretty awesome name for a girl group. Also my 13 year old Hot topic shopping self has a soft spot for Emily. Oh yeah and it is right by my work.

Gen Art's Fresh Faces Fashion Show, Saturday September 16th. I have not been to one of their events but hear good things.

Some new things that I have seen/ heard recently and love: Half Nelson (Ryan Gosling is so awesome, I would be pretty stoked if he was my crack smoking HS history teacher), Dirty Pretty Things "Waterloo to Anywhere" (I guess we now know who had all the talent in The Libertines), Art Brut "Bang Bang Rock and Roll" (why did it take me so long to get this CD, even after my friends toured with them)

Ruined Music

So this is one of my favorite new sites www.ruinedmusic.com. I first heard about it over at Stereogum. I was trying to think if there are any songs that have really been ruined that much for me. Most of the songs that are ruined for me usually involve them being used in commercials like Iggy Pop's "Lust for Life" in the Carnival Cruise commercials, oh yeah and then there is the awful BRMC Chilis commercial.

Probably from college there would be some breakup songs, but I still can listen to them. Like Ani DiFranco's "Untouchable". I def got pretty into emo shit in college when I was breaking up with guys, embarrassingly enough there was a lot of Dashboard Confessional, Alkaline Trio, and Saves the Day listened to.

But anyway the site has way better stories, so check it out.

I saw Patton Oswalt last night and it was hilarious, I loved that he talked about how disgusting the KFC dinner bowls are because Joe and I have been laughing about those commercials for a couple months now (even though I sadly would still eat them).

OMG I just say this on Miss Moderage's site and had to link to it. Pretty much cause I have an unhealthy obsession with Liza and this will be awesome. Of all those crappy emocore/hot topics bands I have to say there is a soft spot in my heart for MCR. I mean they are comic book nerds, cover "Under Pressure", and Helena is a damn fine video.

I am also pretty into this new website called Lala.com. It is a music sharing site where you put up Cds you want to trade and Cds you want. Like Netflix they send you a pre-addressed envelope and you send to the person who wants it. I just put up 18 cds today, and already have one coming. Plus I have a lot of shitty cds from HS that I want to get rid of.

Saw "Snakes on a Plane" last night, and it was everything I wanted it to be and more. So cheesy, so dirty, so funny. We went to a late night rowdy show Saturday night, after hitting up The Edinburgh Castle, and it was great. We also decided on the way home that the chick from The Sounds totally looks like a blonde Parker Posey. Stay after the movie to see the Cobra Starship video (Members of The Sounds, The Academy Is..., Midtown, Gym Class Heros). But the Cee-Lo song Ophidiophobia plays after the video and is great. The break down is hilarious and the chorus borrows from the 80s classic "Send Me an Angel" by Real Life.

Also I watched The Edukators this weekend which was also really amazing, but in a completely different way. Great soundtrack, especially the Jeff Buckley version of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" at the end. I really loved the themes of this movie and thought it was really genuine and sincere for a topic which could have been really cheesy. I am kinda interested to see how the American interpretation goes, it will totally suck if they make it about Brooklyn vegan hipsters who protest Nike and kidnap a CEO. The reason the German version worked so well is that you genuinely believe the characters idealism, especially in the scenes on the roof with Jude and Jan and the interrogation of the man they kidnap. Anyways, you should totally rent this movie and Daniel Bruel is a total hot ass (see also Goodnight Lenin).

I have been meaning to read this book before the movie came out, but don't know if I'll get a chance. Check out this trailer, their band Bang Bang kinda sounds like the Libertines. This movie is by the same directors who made "Lost in La Mancha" which is one of my fav documentaries. I am going to see Clerks 2 today which Joe, which I am hoping will be good, I mean if it makes Joel Siegal walk out its must be good.

The Raconteurs at The Warfield 7/22

Wow, I have to remember in the future that shows at The Warfield start really early. I got there at 9:15 and The Raconteurs were already half way through their first song "Intimate Secretary". I am glad Joe and I didn't get a drink on the way there or I would have missed half their set, and that would have been a shame. Obvs they played all the songs off Broken Boy Soldier, but also a few great covers including Jack singing a beautiful version of Nancy Sinatra's "Bang Bang (My Lover Shot Me Down)", which many of you may know from the Kill Bill soundtrack. They also cover Bowie's "It Ain't Easy" with Brendan taking up vocals and The Flaming Groovies "Headin' for the Texas Border".

Jack and Brendan had great chemistry onstage often sharing a mic. Some highlights were the bluesy-jammed out version of "Blue Veins" and the awesome slow start to "Store Bought Bones". The only bad thing was the heat inside The Warfield, it was seriously a sweat fest on the floor.

Gnarls at The Filmore 7/19

Forgot to post on this show, but as you can imagine it was amazing. I tried to take pics but only had my shitty camera phone and needless to say it sucked. Gnarls was all dressed as Drs and Sexy Nurses. Fun and dancing was had by all. They covered Holly Golightly's "There's an End" which made me so so happy. I really want to know who chose to cover that track. Is Cee-Lo a closet Headcoatees fan as well as a closet freak? Who knows but it was indeed awesome. Oh yeah and they also played a super slowed down version of Transformer which I hope to find soon on this series of tubes we call the Internets.

I love this video by the new British band The Horrors the song is "Sheena is a Parasite". The whole time I kept thinking that would be the coolest video to be the dancing chick in. Then I realized it is British actress Samantha Morton rockin out and exploding. A far cry from "In American".... Another tidbit the video is directed by Chris Cunningham who has done videos for Bjork and Aphex Twin.

Quintron and Miss Pussycat at 12 Galaxies

This was such an amazing show. Quintron had a keyboard set up with a Cadillac grill on the front with working headlights. He also had a drum buddy- drum machine that worked on a light bulb and when you blocked the light path it made a beat. I am pissed I didn't get any pictures of the puppet show before hand because it was awesome.

I am excited for both Gnarls Barkley and the Raconteurs next week. Also Showgirls at Midnight Mass.

If You Close The Door....

The full length trailer for Michel Gondry's The Science of Sleep has made its way to the internet. Gondry is one of my favorite directors and I also love Gael Garcia Bernal. Fun fact the girl playing Stephanie is French actress Charlotte Gainsbourg daughter of Serge Gainsbourg. So now to the best part the songs in trailer: One of my fav Velvet Underground' tracks "After Hours" opens the clip, followed by the appropriately titled "Fear of Sleep" by The Strokes, and closing with the lovely Death Cab joint "Your Heart Is An Empty Room".

I am going to see "Love Janis" tonight and am really stoked on it. It is a musical based on Janis Joplin's letters to her sister while she was touring America and features her music.

Saw "Devil Wears Prada" last night and loved it. Except I fear for all the teenagers who watch it and start thinking 0 is the new 2. Everytime they mentioned how fat she is because she is a size 6 (my size actually) I thought there goes another chick running to the toilet to puke. Other than that it was an accurate depiction of the fashion industry, as well as being an assistant. Meryl Streep is so awesome, I actually wanted to burst out cheering when she gives Andy her "Blue Sweater" rant. Also Andrian Granier is nice to look at but I couldn't help thinking: Vinnie Chase is getting dumped again, and this time not by Mandy Moore.

Stereogum referenced this article about the songs of summer which I thought was amusing. I think the list is pretty accurate, I definitely heard "Hot in Here" like 5 million times that summer when I was in England. My vote is "Crazy" for 2006. Btw there is an awesome Supertramp vs. Roswell vs. Gnarls Crazy mashup that I heard at Bootie this weekend in L.A. I will try to link to it, if I can find it online.

Also I saw both Thom Yorke and La Lohan at the Chateau Marmont, when I was having drinks there this weekend. My friends and I were sitting on one of the couches inside when my British guy radar went off, as I turned to check out the guy talking on the couch next to us, low and behold it was Mr. Radiohead/ soon to be solo himself. I think he was doing an interview with several indie reporter looking peeps. Lohan was with a girlfriend eating on the patio.

This weekend Beyond the Valley of the Dolls, one of my most fav movies ever, is playing at Midnight Mass. I am def going to try to go, although last year I fell asleep during Faster Pussycat, and our cab driver almost killed us on the ride home.

We also went to Stern Grove last Sunday and saw Aimee Mann and Seu Jorge, we didn't get there early enough to sit in the front so we were in the back hill area, which was pretty steep. Seu Jorge put on a great show and it was right after Brazil won their game so there was lots of energy. I think I may also be going to see Ska Cubano there later in July.

I feel I may be the only straight 25 year old girl excited about the Tony Awards, but that's alright. I luckily TIVOed it so I had three hours of musical and theatrical fun to help me recover from my post Haight St. Fair hangover. Things I loved: Alan Cummings and Cyndi Lauper in Three Penny Opera was so f'ing hot I can't believe it, wish I was in NY to see this show. I also loved Michael Cervais as Sweeney Todd. I truly believe Broadway could have done without The Wedding Singer the musical. I also was happy to see the Jersey Boys win.

Ok enough musical nerd talk. I love the new Racontuers video for "Steady as She Goes" Soap box racing, Pee Wee aka Paul Reubens, Brandon Benson in overalls eating a watermelon what more could you ask for?

On a Roll?

After my last temp job ended I have been on a roll of luck. See my last employer was Asian and gave me some lucky money on my last day. As I walked out the door, someone handed me a free ice cream filled Biscotti and I caught my bus right when I reached my stop. Also I have a job interview I am excited about today and on Sunday I was interviewed to possibly be a part of a Lifetime show called 25 in 2006. Weird huh? So I hope my luck is changing.

If you haven't picked it up already please go out and get John Hodgman's "The Areas of My Expertise" it is hilarious. You may know him from NPR, the resident "expert" on The Daily Show, or those Mac commercials where he is the PC guy. Basically, if you enjoying reading fake almanacs with lots of info on hobos and werewolves this book if for you, and if you don't well then I simply don't want to be your friend.

Also I picked up The Raconteurs album yesterday and it is great. If you have only heard "Steady As She Goes" I suggest listening to "Broken Boy Soldier" or "Intimate Secretary" which are infinitely better songs. It is like the things I most love about Jack White and Brenden Benson fused together. Unfortunately, I can't go to their free Amoeba show this Thursday at 9:30, I will be seeing Hank III at the Filmore with Joe.

Can't decide if I want to buy tix to Neko Case at Bimbos or The Raconteurs at The Warfield, but there are only balcony tix left. I have heard a rumor that The Willowz may be opening for The Raconteurs on their tour, and if that is the case perhaps my brother can get me tix, we'll see.

A Grand Don't Come For Free

So as I am temping and shit I have been trying to save money. This involved me going to the Paul Mitchell Beauty School Friday after work on 7th and Folsom, in the rain. But I did get an awesome hair cut and full color for $35. As all you ladies out there know that is a deal my regular salon charges around 125 for the same thing. Although the chick kinda didn't cut my bangs too great so I went home and just trimmed them myself.

Also today I hit up the UnderGround Denim Sample Sale at the Embarcadero. I got there at 10 when it was supposed to open and didn't get inside until 12:00. But it was pretty good I got some a really cute Ella Moss dress and a Trunk LTD psychedelic furs tour t-shirt. But sadly no jeans. Not a one passed the butt test, which involves me turning around and seeing is my ass looks awesome. As a do have a booty, some designer jeans which are made for stick models, flatten it quite a bit (James and Paige esp.). I wish they had more Trunk shirts they are awesome, actually vintage t shirts cut up and put back together to make a cute girl fit. Luckily I saw an old friend from work in line, so I had some backup and did not make any questionable purchases, which often happen with me and sample sales.

Tonight I am checking out a photo show at Blur on Polk Street by a photographer that has photographed Blammos for stuff, should be cool. Also think I may have to break down and see the DaVinci Code this weekend cause I really did like the book and I love Audrey Tatou. In fact my home cut bangs are very Amelie-esque right now.

Next weekend memorial day, I will be down in LA to visit my little brother and hang with Marisa, Rebecca, and Dani. So hopefully I will see some music, drink some drinks, eat a hot dog at pinks (or a street dog), and hover between the EOVs and WOVs (cool all of five people will get that).

Gosh suck a lack of posts I suck. Mainly I have been slaving away doing temp jobs one after the other trying to make some cash so I can pay my bills yo. Still looking for a new job, takes awhile. I am really looking forward to getting paid on Thursday at which time I hope to buy the new gnarls barkley CD and perhaps The Raconteurs when it comes out next week.

I am going down to SD this weekend for Mother's Day and am excited to make my mom and Joe's mom dinner with Joe. Hopefully, I will also get to hang with my brother on Sunday night, catch up on how the Hollywood life is treating him.

Oh yeah and I went to Soul Night at the Elbow Room last Sat. For the first time and it was awesome!!!!! Wish I didn't get so drunk so I could've danced for longer. Went out for dinner before hand with Joe's uncle who works for Arnold in Sacramento, so it was nice drinking at the Four Seasons and dinner on the Republican's dime j/k. They are really lovely.

I am super stoked for Lost tonight, last weeks was amazing. Idol can freakin wait on the TIVO. Speaking of Idol I was pretty stoked for Elvis week, but totally disappointed that Chris lamed up my two fav Elvis songs. As we were sitting there I was all to Joe, "I hope someone does A Little Less Conversation and Suspicious Minds". Yeah then Chris and to sing them all depressed and lame and without any sexiness or emotion. Way to do the King proud you mid 90s alt rock douche. I all about Elliott and Taylor at this point. Oh so I am done nerding out.....for now.

Welcome to the Suck of Unemployment

Yeah so besides going crazy looking for a job and having no money, I decided to update my blog. I think I might venture outside today as it is the first day since I've been back here it hasn't been raining. So if you see a girl at Lafayette Park reading Anthony Bourdain's Kitchen Confidential and humming "Cherry Cola" by EODM that would be me. Who are we kidding it is 2:00 my eyes are straining from searching craigslist, I haven't showered, and have eaten nothing but leftover Easter Ham. I will prob be grabbing a lawn chair and going on my roof to read.

Also for those who haven't heard my temp agency thinks I'm qualified to be an accountant. So I guess that is why last week I was analyzing budget software for an online magazine. Something which I am sumpremely unqualified for. Guess what? I am going back tomorrow to have some financial planners yell at me and slave away on a laptop. Why you ask? Because I have no money and can't sell my eggs because I am afraid of needles and surgery.

But should you have any jobs for me and and not of the kind you call blow (sorry Hedwig joke, I am not that pervy) please let me know.

On the up side go to the Birdmonster CD release Wed at Mezz it is only $5 and if my unemployed ass can pay that so can you.

Oh Yeah I also watched Jarhead last night and that temporally lifted my spirits, although it was way intense. I am referring to the uplifting nature of the double eye (and loads of vowels) candy of Gyllenhaal & Saarsgard in top military shape and often shirtless. It was a really intense movie about war and the life of soldiers blah blah blah. But ladies tune in for Gylenhaal banging some chick against a wall j/k. it was a great film. Also has anyone else seen the SNL where Peter Saarsgard hosted and he spoke at the Pirate Convention, hilarious.

I was so excited to finally pick up the new YYYs and Morrissey albums yesterday. I was planning on trying to by them in Rome but that didn't really happen. I was so stoked to see this photo when I opened up "Ringleader of the Tormentors" Morrissey on a vespa awesome:

Although I wasn't able to run into Morrissey in Roma where he currently resides and recorded the new album, I did pick up this awesome Italian rock mag with him on the cover:

So now onto the albums. I really loved the YYYs show at Bimbo's but def noticed that the new songs seemed a bit distant and lacking the primitive rock which I love about "Fever to Tell" and their EP. However, this album does grow on you and feels like you are in a long cross country road trip. I would also recommend reading the YYYs cover story in the new Spin which basically states that Nick Zinner and Karen O are no longer friends and that the band could go caput at any moment. Also Karen O's new solo album is poised for release in 2007.

Now on to Moz. I love Morrissey and it would be hard for me not to like a new album he puts out. I think "Ringleaders" is a nice departure from his last album. But it is slower, more sexual, but lacking a real hit such as "First of the Gang". This album was definitely influenced by Rome and he even used a Italian film composer to arrange it, as well as a Italian children's choir. I really love " To Me You Are Like A Work of Art" which is a beautiful love song. Also in the same Spin I mentioned above they have a Morrissey interview with Marc Spitz, who else better to interview him. In it he mentions he is almost finished with his autobiography and that The Smiths were offered a ass load of money to reunite for Coachella. Thankfully Spitz links Morrissey's own successful quest to reunite the New York Dolls and that of many Smiths fans to see them reunite. Don't hold your breath according to moz still not gonna happen.

I am so happy to be back from my trip, I will post a link to an online gallery of my pics for everyone soon. I had a really great time Cari and I saw so many places in Spain, Portugal, and Italy. Here are a couple pics from us from Las Fallas which is a festival in Valencia where they build giant Fallas or kinda like elaborate floats and then burn them at the end. We ended up going to Madrid, Valencia, Granada, Seville, Lisbon and Sintra in Portugal, and Milan, Rome, and Cinque Terre in Italy.

Still trying to get over my jet lag, but I think Joe and I will be going to the Peer Pleasure opening at Yerba Buena tonight. I am so excited to see everyone in SF call me this weekend and we can hang out!!!!!

So first off I am obsessing over packing right now and trying to pack the lightest bag possible so I can possibly carry on. I am a total nerd and got way too excited shopping for tiny tolietries at Walgreens.

Anyways, it is a wonderful music week. I just picked up the new Artic Monkeys and Neko Case. They are both amazing. I have heard many of the Artic Monkeys songs from their show at Popscene and previously released cds but the new songs are really great. The Neko Case album is really dark and incredible. I can already tell this will be playing on many a train ride in Europe.

So yeah I am hanging out on Friday with some friends before I leave to pre party at my place and then head over to Bootie, on last dance before I go.

I am getting really excited/ nervous about my trip, Kristin brought me the backpack yesterday which is cool. I can't believe I can only take a few shoes (no heels!) it sounds lame but I love having lots of shit to mix and match and choose from so living out of a backpack for 3 weeks is going to be a challenge.

I did end up going to the YYYs last night. Bimbos totally undersells their shows and you can get tix at the box office, they were $20 and I saw so idiots on CL selling them for $75 each. As always any show at Bimbos is fun for me, I totally want to have my wedding reception there if I ever get married it is so Goodfellas. Anyways, they played mostly new songs off Gold Lion which were amazing. I loved "Honey Bear" "Gold Lion" and "Phenomenon". Also they played "Maps", "Art Star",and "Y Control". It was an amazing show, wish I brought my camera. Karen O was wearing an awesome mumu kind of dress with harelquin jester tights and a Betty Boop t shirt under neath.

So this weekend I will prob go check out Birdmonster at the Cafe Du Nord tonight and you all should too.

I am so excited to be heading to Palm Springs this Saturday for a mini vacay with Joe. I am super stoked to be staying at the Viceroy and fully intend to sit by the pool in my striped Ralph Lauren Polo bikini and being feed drinks all day (pretending I am rich and not unemployed/ temping).

Snapfish- I realized it was time to print out some of my pics when I had 190 on my camera so this site lets you upload the ones you want and either order them online or pick them up at Walgreens. My prints of New Years cost $.62.

NotStarring.com So yesterday at "work" I pretty much devoured this site. Who knew Marilyn Manson was considered for the Scarecrow in Batman Begins and Danzig was considered for Wolverine!!! I love it. Also Tim Burton really wanted to include Robin in Batman Returns and really wanted it to be either Michael Jackson or Prince.

The Best Week Ever Blog has really been turning out some great shit. I love this article they linked to from The Onion AV Club about celebrities playing their ipods on random.

I love temping part time today I am making an awesome workout mix so I can hit the gym and rock out, because I will be in a bathing suit in like a day. I am excited to attend my last Burlesquercise class tonight, it has gone by so fast and I have had such a great time. I intend to keep up with class when I get back to Europe and hope I can start choreographing and dancing on my own soon. I am thinking of a great dance Spy vs. Spy inspired to "My Baby Loves a Secret Agent" by The Detroit Cobras.

Ok so also coming up hit up Birdmonster at The Cafe Du Nord March 3rd and this Saturday go to the Blammos CD release show info on their site, sadly I will be in PS but I will be there on screen in the video, can't wait to see it when I get home. Also I seriously want tix to the YYYs at Bimbos I went last time they played there and it was amazing. I have 0 -no money so I really can't afford the ridic prices on CL right now. RIP Johnny

So I was super stoked that Johnny kicked the bucket last night, what an awesome Vday episode. For all those haters who don't like to OC or don't what to here me go off like a 14 year old stop reading now.

Ok so Johnny totally sucked and was getting on my nerves, come on Kaitlyn Cooper was throwing some hot underage ass his way and he didn't even bother to hit that. I was sick of him whining about his surgery and stalking Marisa. So when he downed a bottle of tequila and fell off a cliff last week I was praying he was dunzo.

And my prays were answered. This death lead to many awesome things like his beach side funeral where they played Sufjan Stevens, the introduction of his cousin played by Thirteen's Nikki Reed, and hopefully less Chilli (Dennis) in future episodes cause he is freakin lame.

Even if you hate to OC you should read this article which explains current US relations through characters in the OC.

Also I love the whole Seth smoking pot story line and best line from last night, "Their playing Death Cab on the Valley? I'm never listening to them again", take that, Ben Gibbard :)

Sometimes I forget how awesome Buddyhead is and how into it I was in High School and the beginnings of college. Their Best of ,Worst of 2005 list is hilarious. Check it out. The very NSFW pic in the Fallout Boy Review may be the most traumatizing thing I have seen in a while, worse than Gummo. Also my fav red headed rocker Josh Homme contributes.

Also went to Bootie last night and danced my ass off at the new Annie's Social Club looks really great (formerly The Cherry Bar) 5th and Folsom. Where else can you here "Hollaback Girl" and "Man of Constant Sorrows" (from Oh Brother) mashed up. Also you know I love the "Cars that go Boom" and Beatles mash up from NYE.

So yes I am aware that every music nerd with a blog feels the need to do their own best of list and I am no exception :) I loved a lot of the music that came out this year and thought it was a great year for indie rock. So here it is:

KTOCITY'S BEST OF 2005
1. Bloc Party- Silent Alarm, I know everyone thinks this is an easy choice but I really do love this album and they also put on one of my favorite shows of 2005 when they played at Slim's to make up for their missed appearance at Popscene.

2. M.I.A- Arular, After seeing M.I.A play to one of the most crowded tents at Coachella it really made it clear to me that her whole CD was amazing. Before, that I had only heard a couple singles online and liked what I heard, but after listening to the whole cd I was totally blown away.

3. Franz Ferdinand- You Could Have It So Much Better, I love this Cd and it took a couple spins until I was really into it. I love "Walk Away" and "Do You Want To" has one of the catchiest hooks of 2005 for sure. Added bonus, pick up their new live DVD which includes their entire performance last year at The Regency in SF look out for me in the front of the balcony dancing my ass off.

4. Spoon- Gimme Fiction, I drove to Napa listening to this Cd for the first time with Joe, how yuppie I know. But this CD is beautiful and amazing in every way, plus the online rumor that the track listing are supposed to be backwards is a sham, but still fun to think about cause it would totally work.

5. Sufjan Stevens- Illinois, I think it is a crime not to include this cd on a best of 2005. I wish I could hire Sufjan to write a musical about my life.

6. The White Stripes- Get Behind Me Satan, I think this CD is just as good as their previous work and really shows some range. I love "Take Take Take" and "Denial Twist", also "I'm Lonely But I Ain't That Lonely Yet" is one of my fav songs of 2005 way to go Lorretta Lynn for giving Jack that title.

7. Artic Monkeys- EP, I know this is the requisite album that isn't even out in the US yet CD on the list. But it is on Itunes so that is good enough for me. I love "Bigger Boys and Stolen Sweethearts" and "I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor". Their performance at Popscene was awesome, except for the fact that my bf had food poisoning and spent the whole show puking in the sink of the bathroom.

8. Bright Eyes- I'm Wide Awake Its Morning, Amazing I believe this is Bright Eyes at his best. It seems like ages ago when this was released (Jan) but it is still 2005 and I would be remiss not to include it.

9. Beck- Guero, Beck back to his dancey best moving away from the acoustic sound of Sea Change. Stand out tracks "Black Tambourine" "Guero" "Summer Girl". Plus when you have an entire episode of the OC use your unreleased CD as a soundtrack that is awesome. There is no one I would rather listen to as Summer and Seth are trapped in the mall.

10. The New Pornographers- Twin Cinema, "Sing Me Spanish Techno" is an awesome track even though the album as a whole doesn't quite do it for me like "Electric Version" but what can? I guess that is why it is number 10, good but I was hoping for so much more.

Nathasa Bedingfeild- "These Words" This song gets in my head like no other. Her and Annie are my new Sophie Ellis Baxters.

Gwen Stefani's Love.Angel.Music. Baby- Come on you have to admit that you have to have had at least one drunken dance to Hollerback Girl or What You Waiting For? and loved every freakin minute of it. Best Guilty Pleasure album of 2005 for sure

ARRRGGHH Work has been super crazy and I have been pretty much just sleeping when I am not working. But first off I never got to say congrats to Birdmonster for winning the Live 105 NSSN contest. They opened at the Bill Graham and then went over to the Utah to play with Division Day, so bummed I couldn't be there but I heard you guys did great!

Last night I went to the John Waters XXXmas at the Filmore. He was hilarious, sadly Johnathan Richman only played for like a half hour. And started right after 8 so I hardly got to see him do any songs :( But he did play "Her Mystery Not of High Heels" which is one of may favs. Also there was lots of dancing with bells and the cowbell on his part.

Can't think of any shows coming up, coming soon will be my best of 2005 album guide, guilty pleasures, and music trends.

New tunes, new computer

Sorry my computer has been having issues lately and Joe and I had to reinstall all our shit. But now I am back up and running and practicing for my future on being unemployed in January. Seems like all my friends are quiting their jobs lately. Unemployed in the new employed. Actually as my Mom suggested my new job title should be Katie Motz "woman of leisure".

Ok so who knew insound had a free mp3 page? I love it scored some new tunes today I have been meaning to check out Anthony and the Johnsons and the new DFA remixes which are both there.

Also sterogum has a new Jenny Lewis track from her upcoming CD release date Jan. 24th, same day as Cat Power new one.

I also bought the new itunes ep of David Bowie and the Arcade Fire Live at Fashion Rocks in Ny. I love it they do Five Years, Wake Up and Life on Mars.

So LA was a blast thanks to Marisa, Rebecca, Jenny, Todd, Chad, and my brother for showing me a great time. Me and Marisa saw James Iha from the Smashing Pumpkins spin on Sat night at Vanguard. We got too trashed on expensive drinks, some doucebag broke my fav necklace while trying to dance with me, and James Iha totally blew us off, oh yeah and I lost my id and atm card. But it was actually really fun.

Also I saw Urge Overkill acoustic at the Viper Room which was pretty cool.

Enough music talk, seriously let's talk H&M, do you realize the craziness that will ensue at the opening on Saturday, I here people are driving up from L.A. I am working Sat but you best believe I will be there Sunday, hoping to score some left over stuff preferable the Stella McCarthy line.

I Spent All Night Making the Soundtrack to Your Day

I will be voting this evening and so should you polls open until 8pm. Here is a pretty good summary of the propositions. Basically I am voting just to vote no on Prop 73 which if you are Pro Choice or think teenagers should have control over their own bodies you should vote no too.

I will be in LA this weekend if anyone knows of anything cool going on. I may go see The Sounds on Saturday and hit up the Dim Mak afterparty at The Vanguard where James Iha is djing. Looking forward to hanging out with Marisa and Rebecca and my brother and eating at Canter's and Pink's.

I totally can not get The Artic Monkeys "I Bet you Look Good on the Dancefloor" and The Tah Dahs "Mix Tape= Love" out of my head. The Artic Monkeys will be playing Nov. 19th at Popscene for the 1 year anniversary of Leisure so go and get your Brit Pop on.

Sounds like Green Day put on a hell of a "secret" show at the Warfield last night. Set list here and good coverage at SFist. I can't believe they played a second encore that was that long with mostly covers. I have to admit I have a soft spot for Green Day. Like most people my age, Dookie broke when I was in middle school and although me and some friends owned both Kerplunk and 1,039, this suddenly made the music I was into go mainstream and it was truly a phenomenon. I remember my brother would borrow my Green Day tapes, yes tapes. And I would have to say this is what really started to get us into music. Growing up in Southern California we were immersed in the whole skate/ surf punk scene of bands like Bad Religion, Green Day, and NOFX. Through these bands my brother and I really went backwards and started to listen to their influences like The Clash, Minor Threat, and OP Ivy. I always just thinks its so weird how music is such a spider web and that sometimes one thing you really like at the moment can get you into greater stuff that you had no idea was out there.

So to sum up, I have to thank Green Day for making me want to know more about music, and bringing me and my brother closer together over a shared love of music and going to shows. Green Day made me realize there was more to music than Billy Joel, Elton John, Barbara Streisand, and musicals. Plus I think from 94-95 I listened to "She" over 2,000 times and it is still my fav Green Day song.

Kentaco and Franz what a combo

Franz was fun, but prob not the best idea to wear my Dior heels, as my feet felt like they were falling off by the end of the night. I dared to take my shoes off a couple times, but as the show went on the floor became much more sticky and gnar gnar and I was afraid I might contract some nasty foot disease. TVOR put on a great set, their songs sounded much more punk and sped up live. FF put on an amazing set, half new songs half old. Only wish they would have played "Eleanor Put Your Boots On", I though they might in the encore but they did not. I was totally shot this week from staying out and working early that I just stayed home last night. But tonight I will be in the Mission watching Division Day play 12 Galaxies and then probably ending the night in Delirium.

Oh yes, one more interesting Franz tidbit. A coworker of mine went to the Popscene after party and was talking with the drummer. Apparently, when he needed money before the band took off he posed naked for extra cash and sold some fat from his ass for cash. He said that is why his nickname is "Dirty Franz". I wish I could have gone to Popscene sounded like fun, working at 6am is such a party killer. I hate having to be such a lameo.

Oh yeah and Kristin and I ate at the ghetto Tenderloin Kentaco. That is a combo Kentucky Fried Kitchen/Taco Bell, not to be confused with Kentaco Hut which also features Pizza Hut. It was way sketchy but we didn't have time to go any where else.

So last night I went to Mezzanine to check out Birdmonster and Clap Your Hands and Say Yeah. First off congrats to Justin, Dave, Zach, and Peter you guys sounded great and it was awesome to see you on such a great bill. Hopefully, you converted loads of new fans. Ok so now on to Clap Your Hands. I think Blagg Blogg pretty much summed it up. I was kinda disappointed, I like a lot of their songs but after the 5th or 6th song the David Byrne imitation got a bit grating. It was a little too detached and droney of a performance for me, but then again I was pretty tired (that's what I get for having to work at 6am). Joe I totally owe you one, I will go see any rockabilly country ass show you want for making you sit through Clap Your Hands.

Did anyone stay for The National? How was it? I left after Clap Your Hands.

I am more excited to see Franz Ferdinand tonight. I will probably be up in the balcony as I hate standing on the floor at Bill Graham. I always end of standing behind or next to sweaty frat guys who lean on me and talk through the whole show.

So lots of fun shows this week. I am really excited to see my friends Birdmonster play with Clap Your Hands and Say Yeah at Mezzanine tomorrow night, if there are still tix left you should definitely go, it will be an awesome show. We will see if my sorry ass can stay awake seeing as I have been going to bed at 9 lately. God I hate working at 6AM. Ok, then on Thursday Franz Ferdinand and TV on the Radio at the Bill Graham Civic Center, come on down and dance with me and Kristin. I love the new Franz Cd I got it today and it is really good. They have a lot to live up to after their self titled debut, but I personally think they pull it off. With a mix radio favs Like "Do you Want To" and more melodic Kink-like ballads "Eleanor Put Your Boots On". I can't wait to see the new songs live. FYI rumor has it "Eleanor Put Your Boots On" is written about lead singer Alex Kapranos' ex-girlfriend and one half of the Fiery Furnaces Eleanor Friedberger.

Power Animals, French Karaoke, and getting Keanu off the drugs

I guess I haven't posted yet on Thumbsucker and I totally have to. So I went to see the premiere at the opening night of Resfest at the Metreon. If you haven't seen this movie yet I highly recommend it. This is the first feature by graphic designer turned music video director Mike Mills. He really does an excellent job of capturing suburbia and adolescence, but not in your typical coming of age story kind of way. The film rests heavily on newcomer Lou Pucci who plays the teenage lead and is fantastic , some are saying the next Johnny Depp. I also have to admit I loved Keanu Reeves as the new age ,wolf painting loving orthodontist. I usually hate him in movies but he was actually really great and his comic delivery was hilarious, he stole many of the scenes he was in.

Ok so here's the good stuff. After the screening they had a Q and A with Mike Mills and he was super cute and excited about the film. So this one chick in the front row raises her hand and begins to ask her question, but she is not really miked so we can't really make out what she is saying. Then we begin to piece it together apparently she is asking Mike Mills if he has Keanu Reeves' contact information or email because she is trying to get in contact with him and urge him off drugs and alcohol. She goes on a crazy ass tirade about how she has been sober for 4 years and how her parents went to some temple in Mexico where they claim to see the Virgin Mary. Ok, so Mike Mills in kinda nodding and everyone in the audience is whispering "what the fuck is this girl talking about?". Then she goes off and starts yelling about how Mike Mills should be ashamed of the movie as it glorifies drug use of teenagers. Then people start to boo her and she is asked to leave. It was quite bizarre, I actually thought ok maybe they planned this like this is part of act. This may have been possible in a Spike Jonze Q and A, but sadly Mike Mills and the Resfest staff was pretty taken a back by her and it def was not planned.

Anyways, onto music. Lately, I have not been able to get the following songs out of my head:

1. Stellastar* "Sweet Troubled Soul"- I just love his voice so much I could listen to it all day, I also love the line " I want to see your reflection in my bedroom stereo" I don't really know why but I love it all. It's no "My Coco" but great in its own right.

2. Natasha Bedingfield " These Words" - Ok so I know this is technically really poppy but I love this song. I guess I just love that she name checks Keates and dances with Boomboxes in the video. She totally reminds me of Sophie Ellis Baxter and there was definitely an entire summer in Europe when me and my friends were obsessed with "Murder on the Dance Floor".

3. Tralala "The Girls Say" they kinda sounds like a mix between Dance Hall Crashers and a 60s girl group and this song is damn catchy.

4. Franz Ferdinand- "Do You Want To" so yes this song was recently featured in the carnival episode of the OC but come on that just just can't ruin a track that contains the line " Your famous friend yeah I blew him before you" as sung by a stylish young Scottish lad.

5. Eagles of Death Metal- " Speak in Tongues" I hear thay have a new CD coming out soon which is great news. This song makes me want to be a go go dancer just so I could shake my ass in fringe to it.

Also I caught Nouvelle Vague at Bimbo's on Saturday and it was a great show. In addition to the tracks on their CD they covered The Cramps "Human Fly", Bauhaus' "Bella Lugosi's Dead", and The Buzzcocks. Some highlights included "Just Can't Get Enough" complete with cheesey hand moves, PIL's "This is Not a Love Song", and The Sex Pistols' "Too Drunk to Fuck".

So today I came across two things on TV which gave me the exact opposite reactions of one another. Let me explain, the first is the show "Mad Money" on CNBC. Now I really doubt any of my friends have seen this show but if you have the host Jim Cramer is perhaps the most terrifying person on the face of the earth. Pretty much he screams at the top of his lungs about stocks for an hour, talks like an old frat guy, and throws papers around his fake desk. If hell exists my hell would def be just me and Jim Cramer in a small windowless office where he just screams about stocks at me all day for the rest of eternity. Better start being good now.

Ok now the second thing I saw on TV today which made me sublimely happy would be "Clueless". Why do teen movies today not get it? Clueless is still a really funny movie, and I must say the soundtrack definitely brings me back to '95. Lest we forget the cheesey goodness of The Muffs covering "Kids in America", Coolio, Jill Sobule, and Mighty Mighty Bosstones. Clueless and Empire Records may be my two most seen movies ever, just because when I was 15 every single time me and my friends had nothing to do, someone would put on one of these two movies. Plus you get to see Britney Murphy in all her chunky, gawky glory before she got all coked out and ana.

Also tonight my TV orgy will be complete as I fully intend to watch the season premiere of Arrested Development and Kitchen Confidential. I heart Gob. However, in real life he is married to SNL's and Upright Citizen's Brigade's Amy Poehler. I wish I was a dude so I could be Gob for Halloween.

New Changes to the Site and Tiki Art Two

No plans for shows until Nouvelle Vague at Bimbo's on the 24th. It doesn't get any better than French chicks covering 80s songs. I am going to try to bring my camera to take some pics of the show. Also Resfest SF has a great lineup of films, such as the SF premiere of Thumbsucker the first feature by graphic artist Mike Mills. There is also a Beck video retrospective on Saturday the 24th. Jenny Lewis, TVOTR, Entourage, and Ipod tourettes

So yeah been super busy/ stressed with work lately and have not been able to update this thing. ok so some music things first off that I have been meaning to post. Also Jenny Lewis's solo work for her upcoming album "Rabbit Fur Coat" has been surfacing online. There is no girl I would rather be more the Jenny Lewis, she has the most beautiful voice and she dresses like a cowgirl. So I am a little late in the game regarding Entourage, but I just recently watched all of the first season on DVD and love it. I am certain how I feel about this show is how guys feel about liking Sex In The City. I know that it is supposed to be making fun of LA, but at the same time it is so LA itself. Also there is a def lack of good female characters aside from Ari's assistant and even she isn't that great. But goddamn do I love Jeremy Piven he is freakin hilarious.

One other thing before I leave to have dinner with Joe and hopefully get crazy drunk in the Haight at Vince's party. So lately I have noticed that my iPod is obsessed with certain songs. Everytime I put it on shuffle it seems intent of playing Blondie's "Rip Her to Shreds" which is awesome because it is perhaps one of the best, most punk rock Blondie songs ever and if I had a band I would totally cover it. Also my Ipod really likes to play totally inappropriate shit when I am riding the bus at 5:30 AM to go to work, such as The Icarus Line or Blood Brothers. Although I love to jump around in my living room to "Burn Piano Island Burn" , at 5:30 AM it makes me want to simultaneous puke and scream which I am sure would completely freak out the 80 yr old Asian woman sitting next to me on the 1 California.

Also my Ipod loves to really embarrass me. Like when a cute guy comes and sits down next to me and I go to skip ahead to a new song, he looks over to see what I am listening to and my iPod just loves to throw out some Ani Difranco, DMB, or any assorted nerdy musical songs I have on it. Come on Ipod! I know I'm not single but I would still like to impress the bus hottie with my cool tatse in music. Why can't you throw up some Sufjan Stevens, Bloc Party remixes, or Pulp at least give me something to start up a convo or at least get a congratulatory nod in my direction.

Flash Alert! LOUIS XIV is coming to Justin Herman Plaza in SAN FRANCISCO on SEPTEMBER 6, 2005 at 5PM.
This San Diego band hit the international scene in 2004 with their quirky punk feel, sexy lyrics, and irresistible angst. Jason Hill, Brian Karscig, Mark Maigaard, and Jimmy Armbrust released their introductory EP, Illegal Tender, in January 2005, featuring the edgy Finding Out True Love is Blind.

In case you were unaware, Justin Herman Plaza is at the end of the Embarcadero in front of the Ferry Plaza. Also it is right in front of my work at the One Market Building. I am really happy to see that this San Diego band has made it so big and I can't wait to go to this free show although it will pry be a mad house. Anyone wanting to meet up give me a call.

Also on sadderer note, I wanted to say RIP to my family dog Typhoon who died yesterday, he had cancer in his mouth and was suffering a great deal, so my parents decided to put him to sleep. It was a very hard decision and my whole family is very upset. Here is a pic of me and Ty Ty from June, I will miss him a lot:

Speaking of art galleries, anyone looking to drink free wine and look at some art, I will be hitting up the open gallery night at 49 Geary on Thurs, first Thur. of the month thing all galleries free plus free drinks, I am sold. Also conveniently Joe works in the same building.

If You Knew What I Know

Hey check out the Amoeba free in store with The New Pornographers tommorrow 8/24 at 7:00. Sadly, according to the Amoeba site, Neko Case will not be there. You have to pay to see her at Bimbo's on the 28th of Sept. If there are still tix left I may try to go becuase I love Neko Case and will be totally bummed if she doesn't show at Amoeba. I'm Lonely But I Ain't That Lonely Yet

So I went to see The White Stripes last night at The Greek Theater in Berkeley, it was a great show. The Greenhornes opened and they were o.k. I felt they were a little boring for such a big venue, but if I saw them in a smaller space the music probably would have felt less out of place. The set up for the new tour is great Jack and Meg had drums, two timpanis, Wurlitzer piano, organ, and Marimba all on stage. Some highlights for me include:

* All the songs Jack played on piano sounded amazing especially "I'm Lonely.." Which he did by himself in the encore.

* Meg rockin the Timpanis/triangle on "Passive Manipulation" not once but twice.

* I loved how uncomfortable all the tools and frat guys around me got when Jack did "Jolene". One guy tapped me on the shoulder after the song and was all, " So like he was singing that from like another point of view right, he wasn't really singing it about a guy?" And I was all, "It is actually a cover of a Dolly Parton song", he looked confused. I love how all these guys get so homophobic if a guy is singing a love song from a female perspective without changing the pronouns. That is what makes this a great cover.

*So Jack is keeping up his whole gay cowboy/ flamenco dancer look. I dug his hat and tight western flared pants. But the western jacket with the medals on it needs to go, it is way too Michael Jacksonesque.

* Spotted Jack's new wife model Karen Elson backstage, she was hard to miss with her red hair. Cute to see her supporting her man.

* Also Jack mentioned that he and Meg visited the Musee Mecanique on Fisherman's Wharf on Friday and took some pictures in the photo booth. I love that place and always take people there it has the coolest old timey games and exhibits.

* They closed with "Boll Weevil" and Jack mentioned that San Francisco was the first city he liked outside of Detroit, that was sweet.

*One other memorable part from the night was when Jack was singing " I Can Tell That We Are Gonna Be friends" and the aforementioned tools behind me were all "Sweet man the Napoleon Dynamite theme song".

Ok but then these two radio promo balloons for 104.9 (San Jose staion) start bouncing toward the stage they hit Jack and land on the stage. Jack stops the song and yells "What the Fuck? Is this some sort of fucking radio promotion?". Then he grabs the balloons and throws them off backstage and continues with the song and everyone cheers. When he is done with the song, he says something like "So before some radio station decides to ban our music, I demand a written apology from them tomorrow morning for interrupting my song".

So ok those balloons are super annoying and lame and yes this is a White Stripes concert not Spring Break, but come on a "written apology"? Throwing the balloons off stage or better yet popping them would be rock and roll, but demanding a written apology is kinda throwing a hissy fit. But we all know Jack follows gentlemanly conduct and would expect others to do the same so I guess in his head a written apology would be the proper course of action.

Anyways, all in all it was a great show and they played some of my favs and a lot of good stuff off the new album. Hopefully, I can locate a set list from the show and post it up here soon.
